Bimal Mukherjee was the foremost, if not the only surviving exponent of the Jaipur Seniya sitar style of his Guru, Ustad Abid Hussain Khan. This was a dhrupad- & khayal-based style, which Mukherjee modified in response to modern sitar trends, adding touches of contemporary masters Vilayat Khan and Nikhil Banerjee in both sitar tone and playing style. Bimal Mukherjee plays three ragas, highlighting in each rendition the appropriate performance style for that raga. The majestic raga Darbari Kanada alap is dhrupad-based; the virtuosic raga Suha Kanada is khayal-based; and the romantic raga Sindhu Bhairavi is thumri-based.Height: 11.50 in

Creation and Dest! ruction are two essential aspects of the universe, which is continually subject to their alternating rhythms. The two are equally dominant in the world and indeed depend upon each other in symbiotic fashion. Bhairavi embodies the principle of destruction. She arises or becomes present when the body declines and decays, which is a natural, inevitable, and irresistible force. Bhairavi is also evident in self-destructive habits, such as eating tamsic food (food having a quality associated with ignorance and lust) and drinking liquor, which wear down the body and mind. She is present, it is said, in the loss of semen, which weakens males. Anger, jealousy, and other selfish emotions and actions strengthen Bhairavi's presence in the world. Righteous behavior, conversely, makes her weaker. In short, she is an ever-present goddess who manifests herself in, and embodies, the destructive aspects of the world. Destruction, however, is not always negative, creation cannot continue with! out it. This is most clear in the process of nourishment and m! etabolis m, in which life feeds on death; creation proceeds by means of transformed energy given up in destruction. Bhairavi is also identified with Kalaratri, a name often associated with Kali that means "black night (of destruction)" and refers to a particularly destructive aspect of Kali. She is also identified with Mahapralaya, the great dissolution at the end of a cosmic cycle, during which all things, having been consumed with fire, are dissolved in the formless waters of procreation. She is the force that tends toward dissolution. This force, furthermore, which is actually Bhairavi herself, is present in each person as one gradually ages, weakens and finally dies. Destruction is apparent everywhere, andDimensions: 4.0 inch Height

With the combined ! star pow er of Go Hyun-Jung, plus Ji Jin-Hee (Dae Jang Geum, Love Letter) and Jo In-Sung (Something Happened in Bali), Spring Days is definitely not your ordinary K-drama series!

Loosely adapted from the popular Japanese drama, Heaven's Coins, Spring Days tells the gripping story of Suh Jung-Eun (Go Hyun-Jung), an elusive beauty who has suffered a trauma so great that she loses the will to speak. Go Eun-Ho (Ji Jin-Hee) is the doctor who helps Jung-Eun find a way to overcome her past. But just when her gratitude starts to blossom into love, fate cruelly intervenes, leaving Eun-Ho in a coma. At the hospital Jung-Eun meets Eun-Ho's stepbrother Eun-Sup (Jo In-Sung), who is also a doctor. Despite his best intentions, Eun-Sup finds himself powerless to resist Jung-Eun. Latent rivalries and misunderstandings come to a boil as the two brothers vie for Jung-Eun's affection.

Featuring an all-star cast and a compelling story, Spring Days is a highly acclaimed 20-episode ! K-Drama for all seasons.

Someday: Hana Yamaguchi (Bae Doo-Na, The Host) is a successful young cartoonist. Although she writes romantic comics, she is analytical and pessimistic about love. Nicknamed the "Love Analyzer," Hana sees love as a simple biological response. But when her cartoon is discontinued, she sets off on a journey to discover what love really is. A Korean TV drama with a touch of animation, Someday tells the story of three people's journey into the crazy world of love.

The first Korean drama to integrate animation and live action, Someday is like no drama that has come before. Through outstanding cinematography and visual design, this groundbreaking drama beautifully lenses Korea's contemporary urban landscape and peeks into the moody, imaginative world of a comic book artist. Written by movie screenwriter Kim Hee Jae (Hanbando), a "movie-like drama" with top-end production values, Someday features film star Bae Du Na (The H! ost), drama favorite Kim Min Joon (Lovers in Prague, Damo), an! d rising stars Lee Jin Wook and Oh Yoon Ah from Alone in Love. In contrast with its fanciful images, the drama stays candid and grounded in its exploration of modern relationships and romance, presenting a story that is both painfully realistic and longingly lighthearted.

Although Korean-Japanese cartoonist Yamaguchi Hana (Bae Du Na) has found great success with her romantic comic books, she herself doesn't believe in love. Raised by her grandmother, she is content to live in her own world of writing and drawing, but one day her comic gets discontinued. Unceremoniously thrown back into the real world, Hana travels to Seoul where she meets Kim Seok Man (Lee Jin Wook), a kind-hearted private investigator with a tragic past, and Go Jin Pyo (Kim Min Joon), a doctor and ardent comic fan who observes life with a detached eye. As Hana retraces the tragic love story of her elderly neighbors with Seok Man and Jin Pyo's help, she realizes that she herself is experiencing love for ! the first time.

This edition comes with making of, interviews, trailers, music video, and other special features.A writer begins living with a beautiful nude model, yet as his feelings for her grow into obsession, she continues to meet her old boyfriend. This film focuses on the losing side of a love-triangle, where the girl is still in love with the OTHER guy. It's complete with all the feelings of anger, depression, pain, abuse, jealousy, happiness, etc. all expressed generally quite subtly. There are many interesting uses of voice-over, narration and sex scenes in this movie, none overdone and all quite effective in construing the feelings of the characters. This is a sad film. It's very bleak. In just about every scene there are only two human characters, and a third mobile phone that you'll grow to despise. Things seem to go so well for a little while, then that dreaded phone rings and the pain starts again. The acting was pretty good. Both expressed the emotions necessary well, and believe me, there were a lot of them. The music, though, was superb. The piano music punctuated the feeling of each scene perfectly. There could have been anything better about the soundtrack. It really added a lot to the feelings expressed.

This erotic and suspenseful tale of sex, lies and betrayal stars Elisha Cuthbert (The Girl Next Door) as Nina Deer, a pretty cheerleader whose life is turned upside-down by the arrival of her parents' godchild Dot (Camilla Belle), a deaf and mute girl recently orphaned by her father's death. Although Nina looks upon Dot's deafness with disdain, her family and friends develop a strange attraction to her, and Dot soon becomes a sounding board for everyone's heaviest burdens. But when Nina becomes convinced that Dot is hiding a few secrets of her own, she decides to confess a family secret so disturbing, it cannot be ignored. Also starring Martin Donovan and Edie Falco (TV's The Sopranos).High school ch! eerleader Nina Deer (Elisha Cuthbert) seems like the ultimate bitch in The Quiet. When Paul and Olivia Deer (Martin Donovan and Edie Falco) invite their deaf and mute godchild, Dot (Camilla Belle) to live with the family following the death of Dot's father, Nina plays Dot's evil stepsister. Dot silently persists as household dynamics unfold nightmarishly around her, revealing an unsavory affair that leaves the mother reaching for her bottle of painkillers. The more Nina reveals her secret fantasy to Dot, however, the more Dot feels compelled to step in. Director Jamie Babbit's film is rich with sexual confusion and sick psychology, making The Quiet surprisingly complex. Though Elisha Cuthbert's performance is strong, it is still a slowly paced film, and the sets, like dark, moody blue rooms in the Deer house, add unneeded melodrama. Still, The Quiet is a thriller about teen girls bonded to commit a heinous crime, and many will appreciate this variation ! on the tale of young female chivalry against monstrosity. -! -Trinie Dalton Take six twentysomething Chicago friends, add cocktails and hormones, shake, and, you've got Happy Endings, the hilarious, edgy new comedy that asks: when a couple splits, who gets to keep the friends? Dave (Zachary Knighton, TV's FlashForward) finds fulfillment (sort of) manning a food truck after losing his hot fiancee Alex (Elisha Cuthbert, TV's 24) at the altar. Alex's type-A sister Jane (Eliza Coupe, TV's Scrubs) is almost happily married to horndog Brad (Damon Wayans Jr., TV's The Underground). Dave's roommate Max (Adam Pally) is a gay, sports-loving slob, and Penny (Casey Wilson, TV's SNL) is on the prowl for a good man...or men. A billionaire auto magnate's virginal teenage daughter falls in love with an older, free-spirited drifter. Their romance is one that her parents vehemently want to prevent. Li! sa (Ornella Muti) is very curious to explore her new-found fee! lings of desire,"Style is the answer to everything," intones skid row poet Charles Serking, played by the suitably grizzled and worn Ben Gazarra, to his somnambulistic audience. Serking is, of course, a not-at-all veiled stand-in for beat legend Charles Bukowksi, whose autobiographical short stories were the basis for this film. But Serking, in many ways, comes off more like a gin-soaked fantasy of a skid row Hemingway whose sports of choice are alcohol, women, and sex. Behind the salt-and-pepper beard and rummy eyes lies an actor too poised to allow himself to fully sink into the alcoholic sloppiness that Mickey Rourke so easily brought to the screen in the less pretentious and more concise Barfly, which Bukowski himself scripted. But if Italian-born director Marco Ferreri stumbles over the self-conscious dialogue, he's right at home capturing the seedy atmosphere of dim, run-down apartments and underlit bars in the real Hollywood Serking calls home. When Serking's fl! ing with the stunning, self-mutilating Italian hooker Cass (Ornella Muti, who puts her oversized safety pin to some rather startling uses) becomes too emotional, he takes the anonymous safety of the streets--crashing in a flophouse, passing around a bottle with a listless knot of derelicts. Serking melds right in with the littered streets and lost souls, a real man of the people. Suddenly you see it: he's got style. --Sean AxmakerStudio: Arts Alliance America Release Date: 11/08/2005 Run time: 341 minutesSursă: Wikipedia. Pagini: 29. Power consumption becomes the most important design goal in a wide range of electronic systems. There are two driving forces towards this trend: continuing device scaling and ever increasing demand of higher computing power. First, device scaling continues to satisfy Moore’s law via a conventional way of scaling (More Moore) and a new way of exploiting the vertical integration (More than Moore). Second, mobile and IT convergence requires m! ore computing power on the silicon chip than ever. Cell phones are now evolving towards mobile PC. PCs and data centers are becoming commodities in house and a must in industry. Both supply enabled by device scaling and demand triggered by the convergence trend realize more computation on chip (via multi-core, integration of diverse functionalities on mobile SoCs, etc.) and finally more power consumption incurring power-related issues and constraints.

Energy-Aware System Design: Algorithms and Architectures provides state-of-the-art ideas for low power design methods from circuit, architecture to software level and offers design case studies in three fast growing areas of mobile storage, biomedical and security.

Important topics and features:

- Describes very recent advanced issues and methods for energy-aware design at each design level from circuit and architecture to algorithm level, and also covering important blocks including  low power ma! in memory subsystem and on-chip network at architecture level

- Explains efficient power conversion and delivery which is becoming important as heterogeneous power sources are adopted for digital and non-digital parts

- Investigates 3D die stacking emphasizing temperature awareness for better perspective on  energy efficiency

- Presents three practical energy-aware design case studies; novel storage device (e.g., solid state disk), biomedical electronics (e.g., cochlear and retina implants), and wireless surveillance camera systems.

Researchers and engineers in the field of hardware and software design will find this book an excellent starting point to catch up with the state-of-the-art ideas of low power design.

For Yonz Aerup, warrior in training, life was simple: trudge through classes, play a few tricks, and generally have a good time before graduating into the Royal Army of the Illatzulian King. However, this illusion of peace is deftly shattered when a bandit clan attacks his school and steals a vital artifac! t of the Kingdom. The peacemaker that ended the last continental war, the object that ensured the balance of power between the kingdoms, is now torn from the hands of Illatzul, thrusting it into an unknown future. Wary of war, the King of Illatzul decides to send student ambassadors to occupy the eyes of the other kingdoms whilst he would desperately try to relocate and retrieve their key of survival. Though ignorant of the world, Yonz Aerup is sent to a foreign nation, where he must learn to cope with his new surroundings and emerge from being a pampered child of peace. Through events that rob him of his childish innocence, Yonz must learn to change himself if he wants to survive. He must learn that nothing is as it seems. No one is who they seem to be. Luckily for him, a winged guardian watches his path carefully.Hephaestus Books represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. Kara Walker is among the most complex and prolific American artists of her generation. Over the past decade, she has gained international recognition for her room-sized tableaux, which depict historical narratives haunted by sexuality, violence and subjugation and are made using the paradoxically genteel eighteenth-century art of cut-paper silhouettes. Set in the antebellum American South, Walker's compositions play off of stereotypes to portray, often grotesquely, life on the plantation, where masters, mistresses and slave men, women and children enact a subverted version of the past in an attempt to reconfigure their status and representation. Over the years, the artist has used drawing, painting, co! lored-light projections, writing, shadow puppetry, and, most recently, film animation to narrate her tales of romance, sadism, oppression and liberation. Her scenarios thwart conventional readings of a cohesive national history and expose the collective, and ongoing, psychological injury caused by the tragic legacy of slavery. Deploying an acidic sense of humor, Walker examines the dialectics of pleasure and danger, guilt and fulfillment, desire and fear, race and class. This landmark publication, which is sure to win international design awards, accompanies Walker's first major American museum survey. It features critical essays by Philippe Vergne, Sander L. Gilman, Thomas McEvilley, Robert Storr and Kevin Young, as well as an illustrated lexicon of recurring themes and motifs in the artist's most influential installations by Yasmil Raymond, more than 200 full-color images, an extensive exhibition history and bibliography, and a 36-page insert by the artist. One dark night ! Emily H and Theo, a tarantula, hear a creepy creaking noise co! ming fro m downstairs. The castle has been invaded by a stranger! Emily H fears that Theo is about to be captured by the villainous Professor Pinkerton...she must act quickly. What's going on in Sam's classroom? It looks like a jungleful of chimps is on the loose! Well, it all starts with Mr Brett's orange and purple socks! Then comes the news that there's going to be a visit from a writer with a mysterious secret and from then on, it's monkey business all the way!
This is the story of how young Zeus, with a little help from six monsters, five Greek gods, an enchanted she-goat, and his mother, became god of gods, master of lightning and thunder, and ruler over all. in doing so, he learned a lot about family. Who knew that having relatives could be so complicated, even for a god?

Brian Karas says about his inspiration for this book, "I've been interested in working with myths, but I felt as though I needed a personal connection. I am of Italian and Greek descent so I started to ! think of my Greek heritage. But the world of Greek mythology was unknown to me and in a way felt inaccessible, until I learned more. The Greek believed their gods and goddesses to be, among other things, very human-like in their emotions and behavior. They had complicated family relations. They were flawed on many levels - they could be petty, impulsive and unreasonable. I started to recognize them. Then I travelled to Greece, I knew this place! This personal connection gave me what I felt I needed to work with a Greek myth. But which?

"I am also interested in the beginnings of things. When I started researching I kept looking for the ultimate source, the very first account, and largely drew from Hesiod's Thegony. Being interested in origins, I was also drawn to the Greek's version of the very beginning of things and it was here that I settled on the story of Zeus. There is much written about his reign as ruler of heaven and earth but very little about his youth and ris! e to power. The story of how his mother hid him on the island ! of Crete is a familiar one but there was a big gap in everything I read of what happened in between his life as an infant and his glory days. Young Zeus is my account of how things might have gone for young Zeus and what led him to become the omnipotent almighty god that he was believed to be."

The creators of CRANK crank up the shock value in this twisted tale of terror that combines pulse- pounding thrills with heart-stopping suspense!

Ted Grey (Milo Ventimiglia) is a brilliant medical student with a promising future in forensics. But when he joins the nation's most prestigious pathology program, he unknowingly becomes a pawn in a terrifying game of death and des! truction as his fellow students use their razor-sharp skills to commit unthinkable murders. When the pathological secrets of his colleagues begin to unfold, Ted quickly realizes that what he doesnâ??t know... could kill him.TV stars Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes) and Alyssa Milano (Charmed) make a rare jump to the big screen in this gruesome thriller about unorthodox fun and games in a morgue. Ventimiglia is a med-school grad who discovers a perverse sleuthing game at his new hospital job--one member of a gaggle of fellow residents is selected to carry out a murder of an "undesirable," and the others must determine the cause of death. Since Ventimiglia's own bedside manner is only slightly north of amoral, he falls in quickly with the homicidal crew, only to discover that it's less easy to extricate one's self from the competition. Filmed with an appropriately clinical eye by German director Marc Schoelermann, Pathology suffers from a riotously bad script l! oaded with clunky dialogue and an unpleasant premise which is ! mined so lely for the opportunity to show scene after scene of autopsies and post-mortem surgery. Gorehounds may groove on its blithe ugliness; all others will wonder why they should be asked to care about the fates of such one-dimensional and mean-spirited people. --Paul GaitaALYSSA MILANO Alyssa (Deleted 1989 Japanese 10-track PICTURE DISC CD album including I Just Wanna Be Loved complete with the original lyric booklet picture sleeve with a set of unused spine stickers plus obi-strip PCCY-00026)Sir John Gielgud stars as a 300-year-old cantankerous ghost who finds a new unexpected friend in a modern American teenager in The Canterville Ghost. FRANCES - DVD MovieJessica Lange gives a career performance in a role she was born to play: the talented and troubled Frances Farmer. Farmer's awful trajectory travels from bright Seattle girl to 1930s Hollywood starlet to degraded (eventually lobotomized) mental patient. Lange, who has the blond, clean look of Farmer's heyday, goes into these places with the fierce abandon of a true believer. Her performance, the lush John Barry score, and the period re-creation are all worth applauding; almost everything e! lse fails. Everyone except Farmer is grotesquely caricatured to fit the movie's thesis, which is that if you are intelligent and nonconformist, the system will resolutely destroy you. (The medical establishment is evil incarnate.) This simple conclusion seems inadequate and disrespectful of Frances Farmer's tragic problems. For a radiant glimpse of what the real Farmer had to offer, see Howard Hawks's Come and Get It, which bristles with excitement over a new discovery. --Robert HortonThe life of legendary country singer Patsy Cline is powerfully brought to the screen. From her climb to fame and fortune, through her passionate and turbulent marriage, this is the unforgettable story of the tragically short lived performer. She wasn't a beauty queen, but country-music star Patsy Cline's voice was a thing of wonder: full-bodied, aching and dreamy at the same time. She came by the torchy emotions in her songs honestly, as shown in this biopic directed by Karel Reis! z, rising from poor surroundings, literally forcing her talent! on the Nashville establishment, all the while trying to survive an abusive marriage to a drinker. Though the script by Robert Getchell is standard Hollywood biography, the movie is more than watchable, thanks to a bone-deep performance by the always astonishing Jessica Lange and the counterpoint by Ed Harris as her loving but unreliable husband. The soundtrack features a basketful of Cline's hits, which Lange convincingly lip-synchs. --Marshall FineJessica Lange gives a career performance in a role she was born to play: the talented and troubled Frances Farmer. Lone u.S. Marshal the only one assigned to antarctica must investigate a murder and track down a serial killer on the frozen continent within three days before the dark winter begins. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 01/19/2010 Starring: Kate BeckinsaleBaby, it's cold outside: that's the problem for U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale), the only law-enforcement officer assigned to Antarctica. On the verge of shipping out before the really bad weather hits, Carrie is confronted with a mysterious murder that sounds like a riddle: how'd a lone corpse find its way to the middle of an ice field, as though dropped from a great height? And what's this have to do with the prologue about a Soviet fighter jet crashing some decades earlier? Whiteout, based on the graphic novel by Gr! eg Rucka, solves these questions in a brisk if mostly preposterous manner, and it moves swiftly enough so you don't have to spend too much time on the plausibility of it all. Among the other snowbound stragglers are a U.N. investigator (Gabriel Macht, of The Spirit), some cocky pilots (Alex O'Laughlin, Columbus Short), and a grizzled doctor (Tom Skerritt). If the presence of Skerritt conjures up memories of Alien, with its ten-little-Indians structure and female warrior, hold on--Whiteout doesn't actually have a supernatural twist to it, and Beckinsale is no Sigourney Weaver. But director Dominic Sena (undistinguished by his cheesy film Swordfish) puts the screws to the material in a relentless way, and the vast exteriors (shot in Canada) are impressive. And when it comes to one particular wow-you're-really-going-there instance of potential amputation for a main character, the film doesn't back down. In fact it sort of revels in the moment. --! During the Depression, a young farm girl travels by hopping trains. She meets and falls in love with a union organizer. They make their living robbing trains and living on the outskirts of the law.
Genre: Feature Film-Action/Adventure
Rating: R
Release Date: 11-JAN-2005
Media Type: DVDMartin Scorsese was just another college film school grad with a student feature under his belt when producer Roger Corman tapped him to direct AIP's entry in the Bonnie and Clyde craze. Barbara Hershey stars as the real-life depression era or! phan of the title, a charming, cheeky young woman who tramped the Deep South with a union organizer (David Carradine), a dandified New York con man (Barry Primus), and a blues-playing mechanic (Bernie Casey), turning her motley band into train-robbing outlaws. Scorsese was anxious to show his chops on a real Hollywood feature and does so admirably (if impersonally) with rough-and-ready style. If the rebellious spirit and social message behind the sex and violence is more Corman than Scorsese, the film references ("Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain," Bertha tells a customer while working at a cathouse) and often inventive direction are pure Scorsese. --Sean Axmaker Carla Moran awakens one night to find herself being assaulted by an unseen presence. Terrified of what's happening to her, and shunned by friends and family who think she's lost her mind, she seeks help from parapsychologists. The researchers soon discover that evil spiritual force has been ! drawn to Carla and is responsible for the violent attacks. Th! e questi on now, however, is how do they stop it? Based on a true story. After suffering the tragic death of his wife, Troy Harper (Daniel Gillies, Spiderman 2, The Sensation of Sight) finds himself following her last request - to build a porch for his Aunt Hilda (Oscar® nominee and Emmy® Award winner Barbara Hershey). At Happy Valley, Hilda's Arizona retirement community, Troy meets her gruff neighbor, Bobby Walden (Golden Globe® Award winner Ron Perlman) and a bawdy, wise-cracking, adorable group of elderly women who help him discover the special, surprising meaning behind his wife's mysterious wish that he "uncross the stars." Also starring Pat Crawford Brown (Desperate Housewives) and Irma P. Hall (Soul Food). The Staircase, based on the real legend of the miraculous stairway at the Sisters of Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico is an inspirational, life-affirming drama of hope and faith. Mother Madalyn s (Barbara Hersh! ey) last wish is that her beloved chapel be completed. However when local carpenters built the chapel, they neglected to erect stairs up to the choir loft, and due to the chapel s construction, adding a staircase is now impossible. The arrival of Joad (William Petersen), may be the answer to Mother Madalyn s prayers. Run Time: 95 minutes Format: 1 disk, DVDRating: Not ratedPublisher: Ignatius PressEmmy-winner and Oscar-nominee Barbara Hershey ("Portrait of a Lady," "Hannah and Her Sisters") plays a free spirit who agrees to bear a child for a childless couple in this early look at the phenomenon of surrogate motherhood. Co-starring Scott Glenn ("The Silence of the Lambs," "The Right Stuff"), this is the first feature by director James Bridges ("Urban Cowboy," "The China Syndrome").

With only a handful of films, director Carl-Jan Colpaert has estab! lished himself as an original--undisciplined and overly whimsi! cal, per haps, but possessed of playful irony, a fondness for quirky development, and a fine eye for how figures look best silhouetted against an unvaried patch of nature. Previously he made comical neo-noirs that spun the genre's conventions every which way but straight; here, working from a romantic and melodramatic screenplay written by others, he perhaps unfortunately sobers up. Barbara Hershey stars as Kate, a successful Manhattanite fed up with her cycle of abusive boyfriends, who one night hails a taxi and demands that the driver Darshan (Naveen Andrews) take her away. Out of that place, out of this town, out as far as the Arizona desert. After brief negotiations, he surprisingly agrees, and soon Kate is lying in the back seat with dark glasses on while behind the wheel Darshan squints against the broiling sun. Between the two there are of course antagonistic debates, glimmerings of mutual respect, self-righteous declarations that each couldn't possibly understand where the ot! her is coming from, and a brief, angry coupling on the car hood. Hershey does what she always does, pitting her intelligence and sexuality against one another; Andrews has been cast as idealized fantasy object before and comfortably slouches through this not-too-demanding role. Colpaert delivers some nice visuals but seems uninspired to do much more. An interesting and slightly offbeat film, but still a disappointment from such a wildly offbeat director. --Bruce ReidHoosiers reproduction poster print
